Filmmaker turned Growth Marketer turned Behavioral Designer

In the world of filmmaking, there is a saying, “Show, Don’t Tell.”. When I was new to filmmaking, I made this classic mistake. I showed less, told more. Now I cringe at some of those films I made.

I realized the beauty and power of “Show, Don’t Tell” when I got deep into marketing. Especially when I saw how it directly impacted the revenue.

But what do I mean by “show don’t tell”? One way to do it is to show your “Product In Action”.

Whether you use an image or a video, show your product while it is in use on your landing pages and ads.

But make sure you show that “keystone moment”. And what is the keystone moment?

It is that moment when your customer interacts with your product just before they get value from it. That exact moment, is your money shot.💸

Sell Your Product Without Being Salesy...
a.k.a.
Show, Don’t Tell.

This is what smart marketers do & lazy marketers don’t.
Show Your Product In Action

Show your product while it is in use.

If you are using an image, show the exact moment when the important action is taken with your product.

That moment, is your money shot. 💸

Why & When Does It Work?

If your customers are required to take an action to get value from your product, then use this pattern. A lot of times, people quit much before they take that key action. 🤷‍♂️

Simulation Heuristic : If an event is easy to visualise mentally, people believe that the event is more likely to happen.
If your customers are required to take a specific action to get value from your product, then use “Product In Action” design pattern.
What Are These Design Patterns?

I have watched a lot of ads & landing pages as a marketer, filmmaker & ex-designer since last 10 years. 🤷‍♂️ So I started identifying design patterns used by successful marketers. Especially patterns that influence customer behavior. You can explore new design patterns that I update at copatterns.com
